And, council aimed to welcome them in the most Aussie way they could – with a barbecue.
Following their citizenship ceremony at Muswellbrook Shire Council’s July ordinary general meeting, the residents were encouraged to join councillors for the celebratory meal.
Council hoped to enrich the significant event by giving the six new citizens a “true blue” experience on Tuesday evening.
Councilor Scott Bailey was instrumental in introducing the idea, one that has been embraced by fellow councilors.
“This shire has much to offer that is uniquely and authentically Australian,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to seeing these elements incorporated into our reinvigorated Citizenship ceremony.
“To bring these activities together into a meaningful Citizenship ceremony will ensure the act of becoming a citizen in the Muswellbrook Shire is both memorable and enjoyable.”
Citizenship ceremonies are during regular council meetings and new citizens are encouraged to share the event with family and friends.
Muswellbrook Shire Citizen of the year Anthony Neate gave a welcome address to the group.
