Currently positioned in fourth spot on the BHP Billiton Hunter Valley Group 21 Rugby League ladder, the boys’ destiny is in their own hands.
A victory over the Singleton Greyhounds at McKinnon Field on Sunday will secure a play-off berth; a loss leaves them relying on Greta Branxton to upstage the Denman Devils.
“We need to come away with a win; it’s as simple as that,” Aberdeen president Les Horvath said.
“Singleton sealed second place [last weekend], so the result doesn’t mean much to them.
“But, for us, it certainly does.
“There’s plenty to play for.
“I believe it’s the match of the round.”
The Tigers kept their season alive, courtesy of a gallant 20-16 triumph at the expense of the Scone Thoroughbreds.
“A win’s a win; we’ll take that,” Horvath said.
“The guys certainly dug deep in the second half.
“They turned their fortunes around against a quality outfit.
“However, we need to continue that momentum on Sunday.”
The Where There’s A Will round will also coincide with Aberdeen’s Old Boys Day, as well as Daniel Hoogerwerf’s 130th first grade appearance in the “black and gold”.
“We’re happy to be involved with such an important charity [WTAW],” Horvath said.
“What Where There’s A Will is doing in the Upper Hunter has resonated within the rugby league community – and outside the region.
“It’s great to see everyone in Group 21 banding together.
“We’re expecting a big crowd at home.
“As for ‘Hoogs’, he’s a terrific clubman - and it's a milestone well-deserved.
“He’s certainly led from the front this season.”
