THE Scone Thoroughbreds women’s league tag side finished its 2017 season on a high at Scone Park on Saturday, upsetting the more-fancied Muswellbrook Ramettes 16-6.
The Steve Simpson-coached squad out-enthused their opponents, with Jacquie Simpson leading from the front in the BHP Billiton Hunter Valley Group 21 fixture.
However, it’s unfair to single out one player, as everyone performed strongly.
And, while the Ramettes’ journey continues in the minor semi-final, against the Singleton Greyhounds, the girls will need to regroup quickly if they’re any chance of contesting the crown.
Too many mistakes, at crucial times, cost them dearly.
In reserve grade, the Rams produced a magnificent comeback to prevail 28-24.
The third-placed Thoroughbreds looked set to enjoy a victory, but their rivals refused to surrender and powered home in the dying stages.
The two outfits will meet again in the opening round of the play-offs, which kick off next weekend.
