In her efforts to get the ball rolling, she sent an invitation to producers in the Upper Hunter, encouraging them to join the movement.
Slow Food is a global, grassroots organisation which exists to prevent the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions.
It also encourages people to consider where their food comes from and how food choices affect the world.
Mrs Moon has been a member of the Lower Hunter Group for some time.
But, due to traveling distance, it has been hard for some Upper Hunter people to attend meetings.
Over the past 12 months, she has been working towards connecting the people in her region.
On Sunday, August 20, all are welcome to attend an initial foundation meeting at Hunter Belle Cheese, from 2.30pm.
Five members are required to officially start the group.
Mrs Moon said Slow Food was an organisation that supported local producers, biodiversity and sustainability.
“It is also a networking opportunity for local producers to share produce, skills and support with funds and expertise for local initiatives such as farmers markets, community and school gardens,” she said.
“We’re seeing a loss of agricultural land in the Upper Hunter and we want to make sure the existing producers in our area have a network where they can work with other producers.
“Hidden in amongst the valleys and ranges are some of NSW’s best food and wine producers, hospitality hosts and restaurateurs.”
Those interested are encouraged to take a sample of their produce to the meeting.
There is also no requirement of agricultural background – a simple interest in Slow Food is enough to be part of the revolution.
