So, it’s no wonder they have been selected to appear a second time at the 2017 State Dance Festival in Sydney.
After a stunning effort on Monday’s evening performance, they returned to Sydney’s Seymour Centre on Friday for the matinee performance.
The group’s teacher choreographers Cindy Hugo and Karen Payne said it was a special thing to not only be accepted for state, but to also be asked to perform twice in one week.
“Each year we try to produce something very different,” Ms Hugo said.
“I think [the students have] worked really hard considering that Karen and I felt it very difficult with choreography this year.
“It was being changed constantly with the choreography ‘cause weren’t happy with it.
“We finally came up with something that we felt was really cohesive and flowed well and worked well for them as well, because we don’t want to put them on the stage with something we feel is below par.
“It’s great for them to be able to be selected for state.
“That’s something that is very difficult to get into.
“It’s very elite – they’re probably one of 30 schools in the state of NSW that have been selected to perform over the whole week.”
The Year 5 and 6 children had a practice run at the Hunter Dance Festival at the beginning of Term 3.
“They have to perform at a regional level at their regional dance festival to then audition for the state dance festival to be selected,” Ms Hugo said.
“They went to the Hunter Dance Festival, they then went and performed at the Hunter School of Performing Arts to audition for the State Dance Festival, and from there, teams get selected from regional festivals all around the state and the best ones get to perform at the State Dance Festival.”
The Muswellbrook Public School 2017 Senior Dance Group performing this year’s dance – Peter Pan and The Lost Boys – was Stephanie Crompton, Taylor Curnuck, Sophie Hayes, Lluka Moffitt, Sienna Comerford, Charlotte Fabris, Alice Small, Lauren Strong, Jordyn Anderson, Makayla Jones, Tamika Kelleher, Cooper Edwards, Julia Troon, Chloe Lanyon, Hayley Passmore, Claudia Murray, Audrey Sinclair, Zalee Maher, Chelsea Loose, Mackenzie Day, Jovi Northey, Caitlin Johnson, and Grace Venables.
