TWO of the Parramatta Eels greatest players are making their way to the Upper Hunter next month.

Brett “Bert” Kenny and Eric “Guru” Grothe, who enjoyed much success in the 1980s, will throw their support behind the Denman Old Boys’ fundraiser for the Where There’s A Will Foundation on Friday, October 13.

The duo terrorised rival teams, Queensland and international sides during a decorated career that, combined, totals 458 first grade appearances, 26 State of Origins and 25 Tests.

“It’s a coup to get both of them here,” organiser Brad Collins said.

“Brett is our guest speaker, while Eric and his band, the Gurus, will perform afterwards.

“So, it’s a fun night out of dinner and dancing.

“Last year we raised funds for Huntington’s Disease and Motor Neurone Disease, which was extremely successful.

“But, this time, we have the chance to support something local like Where There’s A Will.

“I know the family – and everyone is aware of the great job they’ve done with the organisation.

“All proceeds on the night will include a donation to Where There’s A Will, while the remainder is going towards updating the facilities at the town’s new ovals.”

The function will take place at the Denman Basketball Stadium from 6pm.

The cost is $80 per head, which includes a three-course meal, champagne on arrival and entertainment.

Tickets are available from JTS Realty Muswellbrook, Precious Pieces Denman, Brad Collins (0407 299 470) or Steven Harris (0488 358 322).

The Old Boys will then host the Sharon McCormick Memorial Golf Day at the Denman Golf Club on Sunday, September 15, from 8am.

“Sharon was a local legend when it came to junior sport in Denman,” Collins said.

“And, she supported a lot of charities, too.

“This day is our way of honouring her memory.”
