For the past year, the Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) Food Pantry has been feeding those in need.
This week, its volunteers are celebrating their first birthday, and encouraging locals to reach out if required.
“We have regular customers who’ve been coming from the beginning,” organiser Laurene Edwards said.
“And, we’re always getting new ones.”
The service is linked with Upper Hunter Community Services, Compass Housing, Upper Hunter Homeless Support, and Muswellbrook PCYC.
“They send people down here when they have people come in,” Ms Edwards said.
“Compass quite often turns up at our door.
“It fluctuates a bit, but we’re hoping to continue for a lot longer.”
Ms Edwards said people could help the initiative by using the service when needed.
“Just by dropping their pride and realising they need help and coming and asking for it,” she said.
“I’ve come across a lot of people that think ‘there’s people out there who need it more than me’.
“If we have 50 people coming, we can do an order to cover 50 people, so it doesn’t matter how many people come.”
Ms Edwards said as long as the people of Muswellbrook need it, they will keep working to keep the service alive.
“They can come here to pick it up,” she said.
“If they don’t have transport, I can deliver
“We’ll try to help people in a way that’s necessary.
“I know there's the community with the need, they just need to know that we’re here so we can help.”
