This year’s 1200kms for Kids Charity Bike Ride got underway last Saturday, departing Hotel Urban St Leonards on Sydney’s North Shore to make its way to Brisbane over several days, arriving at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital on Friday.
On day two of the journey, a 131km ride, it arrived in town following lunch at Rix Creek Lane in Singleton.
With the money raised for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, 1200kms for Kids presented Muswellbrook District Hospital’s maternity unit manager Janelle Alexander with a Resus Junior Trainer, valued at $2300, for the hospital’s Maternity Department at the weekend.
“This Resus Junior Trainer offers realistic, high-quality CPR education,” she said.
“The manikin simulates a five-year-old child to allow medical staff to train for life-threatening situations and ensures best care is provided to paediatric patients.
“We can’t thank everyone enough.”
The 1200kms for Kids Charity Bike Ride was conceived in 2005 by two friends – Trevelyan Bale of Sydney and Gary Richardson of the Sunshine Coast – to give back to hospitals that tirelessly help sick children in Australia.
The inaugural event took place in 2006 and, to date, it has generously fundraised more than $1.4 million.
And, the annual ride is held each year in October between Brisbane and Sydney, or vice-versa.
The 1200kms for Kids riders have been supporting the Children’s Hospital Foundation since the ride’s origins in 2006.
The Children’s Hospital Foundation is the official charity of the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital and works wonders for sick kids by funding life-saving medical research, investing in vital new equipment, and providing comfort, entertainment, family support and care programs for sick kids.
With help from 1200kms for Kids, the Children’s Hospital Foundation will continue to support the Queensland Children’s Tumour Bank which is a unique resource for major national and international collaborative research projects.
In 2011, the cyclists began supporting the Humpty Dumpty Foundation and, to date, 56 pieces of life-saving medical equipment have been donated from this charity bike ride to 11 hospitals along the ride’s route.
Three-hundred and forty-six hospitals across the nation have benefited from the life-saving medical equipment received specifically to care for children and babies provided by the Humpty Dumpty Foundation and its amazing “Good Eggs” supporters.
