The event kicks off at 1.30pm on Saturday at Simpson Park – rain, hail or shine.
“The third annual Bottoms up Festival, sponsored by Muswellbrook Shire Council, aims to showcase the best music and artisan products the Upper Hunter has to offer,” organiser Ruaan Van Der Wath said.
“So, don’t miss it.”
Newcastle’s Jones the Cat won top prize in the prestigious Unisounds competition last week, so the four-piece outfit’s Muswellbrook visit is timely.
“Unisounds was in its inaugural year, taking over from the National Campus Band Competition that launched the careers of artists like Jebediah, Eskimo Joe, Augie March and Dappled Cities,” vocalist Jack Waterson said.
“We entered [the competition] as a wildcard, winning a public vote over bands from around to country to gain entry to the finals at Sydney’s Oxford Arts Factory.
“We impressed the judges with a frantic and sweaty show to take home a $100,000 prize package including an international record release supported by Canada’s Dine Alone Records, recording time with ARIA Award-winning producers and much more.
“After the Bottoms Up Festival, we’ve got shows scheduled from Brisbane to Canberra before the end of the year.
“Actually, one of our band members, bassist Jarrod Wilton, grew up in Muswellbrook, so he’s looking forward to playing at ‘home’.
“Hopefully, the locals will come down early (2pm) to see our set.”
Buses will also run from Singleton, Aberdeen and Scone during the festival, while Market Street will be closed from 9am to midnight.
Bring rugs and folding chairs and invest in a “tasting pack” to slurp and sip your way around the precinct.
Each pack includes five tasting tokens and either a stubby cooler and souvenir beer glass or a wine glass holder and a souvenir wine glass.
Kids’ Corner is open from 1.30pm to 4.30pm and have face painting, balloon twisting and craft activities for junior festival-goers.
Online tickets are available from www.bottomsupfest.com.au – or buy at the gate.
