Muswellbrook’s Ian Scott, Gordy Manton and Peter Caddis took the recent Stroke Olympics by storm, returning home from the Hexham Bowling Club with a swag of medals, trophies and certificates.
“They performed brilliantly,” volunteer Christine Doherty said.
“The trio finished overall runners up on the day to the Working Age Group Stroke (WAGS), the largest recovery club in NSW.
“That is a big achievement in itself.
“And, a great result for our small organisation.
“The 2017 Stroke Olympics boasted 86 competitors from stroke recovery groups throughout the region.
“They take place every year – one in Sydney and the other in the Hunter.”
Mr Scott won the George Benson Trophy, as well as a gold medal, for carpet bowls and the George Newson Memorial Shield for indoor bowls, while Mr Manton collected a silver in euchre and third in ball in a box.
A veteran of the event, Mr Caddis has enjoyed plenty of success over the past 14 years.
He’s collected 22 medals, including recent additions – a gold in quoits and a bronze for euchre, along with certificates for soft darts and ball in a box.
“I love it,” he said.
“I’ll compete for as long as I can.
“The Stroke Olympics are a great event, which everyone enjoys.”
