Thanks to the support of Bengalla, the Year 2 and Year 3 pupils were able to participate in the two-week Learn to Swim program at the Muswellbrook Aquatic & Fitness Centre.
And, teacher Lana Mulholland said the youngsters loved the experience.
“It’s the first time we’ve hosted it for a while,” she told the Chronicle.
“But, the response from the kids has been amazing.
“The children have learnt many things, such as water survival, basic swimming skills and stroke correction.
“They’ve gained a lot out of it – and we’ve seen the steady improvement in them.”
Bengalla community relations specialist Debbie Day said the mining company was proud to sponsor the school’s program.
“Swimming is certainly a vital skill for kids,” she admitted.
“And, coming into summer, everyone is near water at some stage.
“So, it is important children feel confident and are able to swim.”
