This will be followed by the Muswellbrook Race Club’s traditional Melbourne Cup meeting on Tuesday, which features the Mayors Cup (1750m) and the Bowman Sprint (900m) – not to mention “the race that stops the nation”, the Melbourne Cup to be shown on the big screen at 3pm.
Both days are expected to draw healthy crowds with significant interest from outside visitors for Melbourne Cup Day.
“We’ve received plenty of bookings from people outside the Upper Hunter to attend Melbourne Cup Day again,” Muswellbrook Race Club general manager Duane Dowell said.
“We also expect the Aberdeen Cup on Sunday to be popular with locals in what is promoted as a family-friendly race day.
“There is lots on with jumping castles for the kids and music in the grounds,” Dowell added.
Gates open at noon on Sunday with free entry while it’s an 11.30am start for Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup race day.
