That could have been the headline at Muswellbrook High School on Thursday afternoon.
But, thankfully, the motor vehicle accident was staged and the three teenagers – Alex Ross, Liam Davies and Ben Henry – lived to tell the tale.
The “real life” scenario, complete with police, firefighters and paramedics, was part of the Upper Hunter Liquor Accord’s (UHLA) annual drug and alcohol seminar, which attracted more than 250 students from Muswellbrook High School, St Joseph’s High School Aberdeen, Merriwa High School, Scone High School and Scone Grammar School.
“The performance highlighted the dangers of drink-driving, especially among youngsters,” Mr Henry said.
“We hear about it all the time.
“However, Alex, Liam and I learned more from putting it all together [for the other pupils].
“It was an interesting project.”
Muswellbrook NSW Fire & Rescue's Luke Simpson praised the concept, too.
“I’m ecstatic with how it all went [today],” he said.
“It’s the first time we’ve hosted Rescue Education [at a high school].
“And, Senior Constable Sheree Gray did a fantastic job coordinating the emergency services – Hunter Valley Local Area Command, NSW Fire & Rescue and NSW Ambulance – and the five local high schools.
“It was good to tap into the UHLA’s day.
“It merges in with what they do.
“Our thanks go to the Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter Community Drug Action Teams (CDAT) as well.
“I hope everyone got something out of it,” Hunter Valley Local Area Command Senior Constable Sheree Gray added.
“It’s certainly an important message.”
