WITH just a month remaining until the closing chapter of Muswellbrook Carelink Inc’ story, the local organisation paid tribute to its supporters at a special appreciation dinner on Monday night.

More than 50 people attended the function, entitled Get Together, at the Muswellbrook RSL Club to acknowledge the group’s assistance to cancer and palliative care patients in the Upper Hunter over the past three decades.
“We have cared for this community for almost 30 years,” long-time member Marie Wild said.
“And, we’ve serviced Muswellbrook, Denman, Gungal, Merriwa, Cassilis, Aberdeen, Ellerston, Scone and Murrurundi.
“Our drivers also transported patients free of charge to Sydney and Newcastle for appointments.
“During that time, the community support has kept us going.
“But, regrettably, we now find it necessary to disband.
“Unfortunately, people don’t seem to want to volunteer these days, so it’s a shame that this service is ending.
“[Tonight] is our way of saying thank you.
“Ironically, it’s just shy of our 30th birthday.
“We’ll finish up at the end of December.
“The equipment purchased with everyone’s donations will continue to be used in the local area, which is a positive.
“It’s a marvellous organisation – we can only hope someone picks up this service [again] one day.”
