Aberdeen Little Athletics triumphs at Hunter Zone Championships

ABERDEEN Little Athletics launched a nine-prong assault on the recent Hunter Zone Championships at the Metford Recreational Ground.

And, the talented youngsters returned home from the East Maitland-hosted event boasting some terrific results.

“Congratulations to all athletes for their great efforts and being wonderful ambassadors for our centre,” club spokesperson Denise Bell said.

“For athletes to qualify for the State Championships, they must work their way up from zone in the under-9 to under-17 age groups.

“A first, second or third enables the athlete to progress to the Region 2 Championships at the Mingara athletics facility in February, 2018.

“For under-8s, Region 2 is the highest level they can achieve, while zone is the furthest for under-7s, through Little Athletics.”

Under-7 competitors Darius Geerin and Conan Waugh flew the Aberdeen flag at zone.

Geerin collected a bronze medal for his third place in the 200m with a time of 43.78.

Waugh came away with a medal of each colour, being gold in 200m (39.72), silver in 500m pack start and bronze in the 100m final.
