There are significant blazes in the Wollemi National Park and a high risk of further outbreaks occurring during current hot and dry weather conditions.
Due to the prevailing situation, and an unusually high demand for water, Muswellbrook Shire Council put out a call to all residents and business operators on Wednesday to keep their consumption of town water to a minimum by limiting outside usage such as watering gardens, washing cars and washing down concrete.
Council is asking the community to work together to ensure that sufficient water volumes are available for firefighting purposes.
“The community’s cooperation in reducing consumption and using water wisely is most appreciated,” a council spokesperson said.
“Residents are also encouraged to report sightings of tankers (not associated with the firefighting effort) taking water from fire hydrants to council on 6549 3700.”
