Our local “heroes” were on hand to give advice on installing or replacing smoke alarms, and how to best prepare a home fire escape plan in the lead-up to winter, as well as showcase their respective brigade’s fire trucks, stations and equipment.
A range of free activities and educational demonstrations added to the atmosphere.
While the Muswellbrook team was delighted with the response to the day, the Denman crew also used the occasion to entice new members to the fold.
“We’re in the process of recruiting at the moment – mainly targeting day-time availability,” Captain Gavin Bray said.
“We do a lot more than just fight fires; we’re home to the 57th Volunteer Ambulance Officer and Community First Responder (VCFR) unit, too.”

Meanwhile, FRNSW Commissioner Paul Baxter, who will mark one year in the top job this month, said the community revelled in the opportunity to learn more about the vital work carried out by firefighters.
“Our firefighters are among the most highly-trained in the world and have a very wide range of capabilities,” he said.
“The job involves so much more than firefighting whether it is across the state, across the country, deployments overseas or supporting other emergency services agencies.
“From chemical spills, car accidents and natural disasters to prevention education and humanitarian relief, our firefighters are prepared for anything and help anyone, anywhere, anytime.”
