At this carnival, all competitors in the under-7 to under-12 age groups were allowed to enter four events on Saturday and Sunday, while those in the under-13s to under-17s could add another two to their program.
“All our athletes performed well, even though the weather wasn’t kind,” club secretary Denise Bell said.
“They have done Aberdeen proud.
“Also, many thanks go to their parents for assisting with the triple jump over the two-day carnival.
“The event was run entirely by volunteers under the leadership of zone coordinator Leesa Whyte-Southcombe, of East Maitland Little Athletics Centre.”
In a terrific performance for the club, Eliza Smallmon, Conan Waugh, Ruby Brochtrup, Caiden Waugh, Thomas Roughan, Emily Smallmon, Malaki Poa and Bella-Rose Partridge have all qualified for the Region 2 Championships at the Glendale Athletics Centre from February 8 to 10.
Smallmon will contest the under-8 girls’ discus while older sister Emily faces rivals in the under-11 girls’ triple jump and shot put.
Brochtrup is eyeing off the under-9 girls’ 70m, 100m and 200m sprints, as well as the long jump.
Waugh will compete in the under-8 boys’ long jump and 200m sprint, while older sibling Caiden tackles the under-9 boys’ 100m, 60m hurdles, high jump and long jump.
Roughan takes his place in the under-9 boys’ discus, and Poa lines up in the under-13 girls’ 1500m and triple jump.
Partridge boasts the busiest schedule, which includes the under-15 girls’ 800m, 1500m, long jump, discus, shot put and javelin.
