If you thought Canberra's summer of cricket couldn't possibly get any bigger than the one we just witnessed, think again. Twenty matches including internationals, BBL games, WNCL and national second XI clashes will take place across six months in a bumper summer of cricket for fans in Canberra. Australia's men's and women's sides are back, so too is the Big Bash League, while the ACT Meteors and ACT/NSW Country Comets will have a greater presence at home, before the Women's Twenty20 World Cup rolls into town. Australia, England and India will all lock horns in a tri-series in Canberra. The ACT Meteors will host four games in Canberra at Manuka Oval and Phillip Oval, but they will take their first four matches on the road. The landscape has changed for the ACT/NSW Country Comets this season with the Futures League scrapped in favour of a genuine state second XI competition. The change is designed to reward the best players available with a chance to press their claims for a first class call-up. A Twenty20 competition in South Australia will be wedged in between the Comets' five four-day fixtures, which will be rounded out by a clash with South Australia in Canberra from March 9. The Ginninderra Tigers' Douglas Cup defence will get underway when the two-day competition begins on November 23. The top-ranked sides will host semi-finals on March 14-15 before the final, played as a three-day game, is played at Phillip Oval on March 20-21-22. The women's Glenda Hall Shield is underway having started on October 12, with the final scheduled for November 10 at Phillip Oval. FEMALE TWENTY20 BASH The headline act for the women's competition? That comes across December and January when the ACT Meteors and the best of the Canberra grade competition are split into four teams for a Twenty20 tournament. The Northern Frenzy, Southern Pride, Eastern Fever and Western Crash will contest the ACT Female Bash for the first time, beginning on December 14 and finishing on January 17.
