Wright made the A-main (final) at the opening event but then fell one spot short last weekend in round two.
“The competition in Sydney is so tough right now; it is by far the toughest weekly competition in Australia, if not the world,” Wright said.
“Our aim is to get better each week and I feel that we are as good as ever but we still have a bit of improvement to make.”
The season got off to a great start earlier this month with a heat win after Wright held off a late race charge from a determined Garry Brazier.
The win subsequently qualified him for the pole shuffle, where he lost to Matt Smith after initially getting the jump at the drop of the green.
After starting on the fourth row, the A-main didn’t go to plan as he spun the car around before continuing on, losing a number of spots in the process.
“The car felt really good but I simply made a mistake and jumped the cushion and spun out,” he said.
“Then I got a lap down so all I could do was ride around to get the best result I could, so 20th wasn’t a true result of the night we had.”
Wright started the night by recording the 15th fastest time in time trials in Group 1 with a lap of 13.346.
This put the Wright Racing into the opening heat from position seven.
Unfortunately, it ended with a Did Not Finish (DNF) after a brake caliper broke on lap two. Due to his competitive result in time trials, Wright started the B-main from position eight where he eventually finished just one spot out of the transfer position after a great battle with Victorian Grant Anderson.
After sneaking into fourth spot at one stage, Anderson eventually got back around Wright to end his evening.
“To miss out by one spot was disappointing but there was no shame to lose out to Grant, he is great racer,” Wright said.
“We were a bit tight in time trials but we made a few changes to the shock package and we got the car a whole lot better for the B-main”.
Wright will now return to the track next weekend for round four of the series after missing the previous race due to work commitments.
