But, perhaps what made their day was a steer bred by Travis’ aunt and uncle Leonie and Greg Ball, of “Grenell” Bowmans Creek near Singleton, was sashed lightweight champion on the hoof and hook and sold for $8.20/kg to return $3198.
Known as Bear, the steer had been donated by the Ball family and fed and prepared by the Worths with all sale proceeds being given to Matt Cherry and Shelley Piper (Trio Angus stud).
Matt and Shelley’s property and stock and been badly-affected by the Sir Ivan Bushfire, which raged through districts in the Upper Hunter on Sunday, February 12.
The couple not had to cope with the bushfire and its aftermath but they were new parents of twins born in November 2016.
Travis and Sara exhibited the medium weight and grand champion steer on the hook with a score of 93 points.
Sired by Rosedale Bossman, the steer was a member of the Charolais Stan Hill team, which was placed second overall behind the winning Murray Grey trio.
In the carcase judging, steers entered by the Worths received two gold, two silver and one bronze medallion for their meat eating qualities.
A steer bred by the Lawrence family, at Rouchel, and shown by the Worths won the reserve champion trade steer ribbon on the hoof.
In the stud cattle classes, their Charolais entry in the junior bull competition Tractor Larceny was awarded the reserve champion ribbon.
A very pleased Mr Worth described their success as being their best Sydney Royal ever.
