The St Heliers Heavy Horse Field Days are sure to impress. From 8.30am, on Saturday and Sunday, visit the grounds of St Heliers Correctional Facility to join in the celebration of the nature of heavy horses, and their accomplishments.
Committee president Louise Turner said the horses were so quiet people could talk to those working with them and have a pat.
“You can get up quite personal with the horses,” she said.
“It’s a terrific family day out.”
Mrs Turner said more than 80 horses were expected over the weekend and encouraged the community to support the event
“The committee here has worked really hard,” she said.
“It’s just great for the general area – we support everything local we can.
“It’s good to be able to work with the correctional facility here because they do a great job of up-keeping all this all year round.”
