Muswellbrook Lioness Club donates more than $12,000 to charity organisations

THE generosity of the Lioness Club of Muswellbrook shone through in the past 12 months.

The local organisation, which recently hosted its 33rd installation of officers at the Muswellbrook and District Workers Club, donated more than $12,000 to a variety of local and national groups.

“We served the community both financially and physically in 2016-17,” president Val McDonald said.

“Our members volunteered at the Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter Eisteddfod, assisted with the barbecue breakfast and lunch at the Black Coal Golf Day for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, sold race books and manned the gates at the Spring Racing carnival and helped out at the Muswellbrook Public School fete, to name just a few things we’ve been involved in.

“The club also conducted its usual fundraisers – the Spring Raffle, Christmas wrapping at Muswellbrook Marketplace, Santa letters and the grocery grab.

“Overall, we worked 1850 service hours and bestowed $12,542.56.”

Those to benefit from the Lioness Club of Muswellbrook included schools for presentation days ($1100), Muswellbrook pantries ($1059), proceeds from Santa letters to pre-school, Toybox, PCYC, child care centre and Aberdeen pre-school ($1233.56), Camp Quality ($100), Riding for the Disabled ($500), Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service ($250), 2NM Toy Appeal ($200), Lucas Appeal ($500), Muswellbrook high School Robotics team ($500), Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter Eisteddfod ($250), Happy Tooth team to Nepal ($200), HMRI ($500), Breast Cancer ($500), Prostate Cancer ($500), Hunter Melanoma ($200), Cancer Council ($200), Relay for Life ($250), LCIF Canada Fires ($100), Lions Cord Blood Appeal ($1700), LCI Italian Earthquake ($100), Lions Save Sight ($200), LCIF Measles Initiative ($200), Lions Drug Awareness ($100), District 201N3 Dunedoo Fires ($1000), District 201N3 Cyclone Debbie ($1000) and Lions Eye Health ($100).
