Muswellbrook’s Waters captured the Port Macquarie Seaside Classic, a major Vardon fixture, on Sunday while Aberdeen’s Perry, who recently enjoyed a purple patch in England, is playing in the USA Amateur Championships this week.
A double bogey on the last hole cost Port Macquarie’s Jackson Jubelin a top two berth at the men’s Seaside Classic.
But, it was Waters who emerged with the title after scoring rounds of 70 and 72 to finish five shots clear of Zac Mullens.
The talented local youngster enjoyed a slim one under par lead overnight.
He got to four under par with five holes remaining, however he then bogeyed the 14th, double bogeyed the 15th and then bogeyed the 17th to be back to even par.
Most of the leaders had problems over the closing holes.
Jubelin had a short putt at the last for outright second but the teenager missed it – and failed to sink the return putt.
Mullens was the runner-up last year as well and Jubelin finished in a four-way tie for third with Mark Hale, Mark Ellison and Brayden Petersen.
