In celebration of History Week, the group will launch two books on Saturday.
Join the team at Muswellbrook library, from 10am to 1pm, to be a part of the launch of Muswellbrook in Picture 1985, and the relaunch of updated publication Another Walk Through the Town.
Both titles were compiled by former Muswellbrook High School teacher Bruce James.
Mr James will take attendees on a journey through the process of creating the compilations, and share some of his local history knowledge.
The Muswellbrook in pictures book showcases the fascinating change in Muswellbrook’s landscape between 1912 and 1985.
A book, featuring photos of Muswellbrook in the early 1900s was discovered at Maitland tip, and ended up in the hands of Mr James.
The finding sparked a journey for the historian, who took photos in 1985 in the same location, showing how the town had changed in that time.
Now, 32 years later, residents will be intrigued to see their beloved town in a different light, and perhaps reminisce on times gone by.
Another Walk Through Muswellbrook was born following a one-off Rotary presentation delivered by Mr James a number of years ago.
When it was decided by fellow history buffs that it wasn’t enough for his knowledge to simply stay with those at the meeting, a book was compiled for the whole region to enjoy.
Morning tea will be provided and there will also be a trivia game upstairs in the library throughout the event, with a selection of prizes on offer.
The society will host their open day during this time, with a display of historic documents, photographs and artefacts.
