But, all three of Muswellbrook High School’s Girls Academy Japan tour participants are looking forward to the adventures that await them.
On September 24, the trio – Angelise Van Vliet, Alannah Miller, and Katie Van Vliet – will travel to the Asian country for the Idemitsu 2017 Tour of Japan.
All Girls Academy members were encouraged to apply by submitting an expression of interest.
Originally, there were only two places available, but Muswellbrook High School’s three applicants were all accepted for the week-long trip.
The adventure will include shopping at Harajuku, and visits to the Idemitsu office, Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, and Hiroshima.
“I think it’s an amazing opportunity and we’re happy to partner with Girls Academy to make this dream a reality,” Muswellbrook High School principal Elizabeth Bate said.
She believes it will be a good opportunity for the teenagers to see what’s in another country and to make connections.
“Hopefully this will be the beginning of great relationships between Girls Academy and young people that they meet,” she said.
Girls Academy program manager Elizabeth Howard said it was good exposure for the girls.
“This program is about giving the girls opporutnities and having that exposure outside of Muswellbrook,” she said.
The Girls Academy develops and empowers Aboriginal girls through leadership training, mentoring, sport and extra-curricular programs.
Their goal is to create an environment within schools where girls receive support and programs needed to help them realise their full potential.
