But, their Muswellbrook Netball Association championship wasn’t the only reason they were proud.

Three of the team’s players also had daughters competing at Karoola Park on grand final day, with the young girls losing their match by one goal.

Despite a win and a loss, the Meissners – Allie, Jody, and Imogen, the Parkers – Mia and Addie, and the Comerfords – Sienna and Sally, all had something to celebrate.

Sally Comerford agreed the love of netball had been passed on from mother to daughter, and great friendships had formed.

“Team sports is a fantastic way to bring families and friendships closer,” she said.

“This is why I have focused on keeping all our young girls and mothers together.

“We have formed amazing bonds together.”

The Muswellbrook mother’s netball fascination began when she was 5 years of age.

“Most of us have played pretty well the majority of our lives – on and off due to children, work, [and] travel commitments,” she said.

“We are now all settled and are enjoying the sport we love.

“The girls have been together since they were 5 and are all still together.

“It’s beautiful to see.”

The families’ passion for netball is already helping the ones who are starting out in their sporting journey.

“Jody and Allie Meissner play together now, and Allie coaches the junior team as well,” Mrs Comerford said.

“And, who knows, in a few years time, Imogen, Mia and Sienna may join the senior team.

“You never know.

“A lot of the ladies in the senior team love netball so much and love helping and mentoring girls, that they also contribute their time to coaching representative teams as well as helping with umpiring.

“Sienna has already obtained her association umpiring badge, and I know the other girls will work on receiving theirs next season.

“The girls have also been selected to play representative netball in the 2018 season.”
