Council has placed a draft masterplan of a Bill Rose Sports Complex major upgrade on display for comment.
The draft plans include new features, as well as replacing facilities that will be impacted by Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) plans for the Scone Bypass.
The proposed bypass route cuts through the Bill Rose Sports Complex impacting on the playground, some exercise equipment, two twilight hockey fields and two netball courts.
Replacing these facilities is part of the compensation package Upper Hunter Shire Council negotiated with RMS.
Mayor Wayne Bedggood said the most exciting new features included a fenced off-leash dog park, a walking and cycling track around the complex, and an improved playground and picnic area.
“The draft masterplan is a response to the bypass, and also creates shared cycling and pedestrian facilities; better cricket nets, extra storage sheds for sporting clubs, and improved drainage and car parking,” he said.
“The proposed playground will be larger than the existing one and will be built in stages, with park furniture and picnic shelters, barbecue, a fenced learn-to- ride track, and landscaping.
“The plans also include a much-needed, fenced off-leash dog park on the western side of the Sports Complex.
“I know a lot of pet owners will be excited about that,.”
Moir Landscape Architects and local firm. RHM Consulting Engineers, have prepared the draft plan which can be viewed at the Council’s Scone Administration Centre or on Council’s website under Hot Topics.
Cr Bedggood said the draft plan was the starting point to discuss the development of the park with the community.
“Council staff are meeting with key sports clubs over coming weeks to discuss the draft plan in detail,” he said

Written comments on the draft Bill Rose Sports Complex Masterplans are invited by November 30, 2017.
Work on the Sports Complex upgrade will begin in 2018.
