The 16-year-old St Joseph’s High School student represented Northern NSW (NNSW) in the recent Australian Schools Futsal Championships in September.
Teams from Queensland, NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and Western Australia gathered in Brisbane to participate in the four-day championships.
McLoughlin, joined by fellow Muswellbrook boy Kyle Eriksson, competed in the Under-16 NNSW team.
They were selected at the school regional and state titles, where they represented St Joseph’s High School.
McLoughlin and Eriksson’s team played six games over three days, qualifying for the semi-finals on day four, where they lost to eventual winners, Queensland.
McLoughlin was named one of five Australian all-stars in the Under-16 boys team, as the best goalkeeper in his age group at the championships, at the presentation at Sea World.
“The five all-stars – four court players and one goalkeeper – are nominated by coaches from their respective age group, with the five players with the highest number of nominations named as U16 Australian all-stars,” McLoughlin’s mother Annabelle said.
“Another of Finn’s team mates, Fyre Petrie from Newcastle was also named Australian all-star for the Under-16 boys.
“From this competition, Finn has been selected to represent Australia in a tour of South Brazil from mid April to early May 2018.
“However, this tour will coincide with Finn starting an apprenticeship.”
