Last week, Muswellbrook Out Of School Hours (MOOSH) hosted their Together Through Arts, with much success.
The program, funded through the Community Arts Support Program (CASP), allowed children to have fun, while learning about the importance of art in the Aboriginal culture.
Wanaruah artist Aunty Denise Hedges teamed up with the out of school care service to give the side of the MOOSH building a makeover.
Aunty Denise guided children as they painted a mural on the previously plain wall in Skellatar Street, as well as sharing with them about Aboriginal art, culture, and craft.
Children placed their hand prints on the painting.
And, according to MOOSH coordinator Sharon Pittman, the mural has added colour to the centre.
“It was such a plain wall,” she said.
“It’s been a really good educational experience for the kids.
“Everyone contributed.
“We met and discussed the design.
“We all took it in turns, coming out and painting a little bit.”
The centre celebrated the mural’s completion on Friday, with a sausage sizzle, courtesy of Muswellbrook Men’s Shed.
