Bek Sumner is no stranger to that feeling of being lost or as she describes it, wanting more. After having her two children she began to crave a career that enabled her to care for her family, yet achieve mental stimulation through her work.
Having heard friends talk of NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming and Time Line Therapy, she embarked on some research to find out more.
Drawn to the concept of taking control of your life by accepting responsibility for your own behaviour and reactions, Bek decided to pursue a Certificate in NLP and has since completed her Masters training.
Neuro Linguistic Programming is an approach to personal and professional development based on how the brain reacts to certain situations.
We are all responsible for our own reactions and behaviour.
- Bek Sumner
It is about the language of the mind and understanding how to communicate what you want both with yourself and others. Developed in 1970, NLP has been widely recognised for assisting with anxiety, depression, personal and professional development by enabling individuals to focus on an intended goal or outcome. It’s even used to help smokers quit.
Since undergoing her intensive training, Bek has seen first hand the power of NLP and has launched her own business, Breakthrough to Excellence, and teaches her first training course in February 2018.
“I work with a broad range of people, ages and situations. It might be for anxiety or depression and to remove the need for medication. I work with parents and children with dyslexia and autism, assist professionals with their development in key areas for better career success and can help those with a health goal,” begins Bek.
Clients will typically spend their first session running through a series of questions that enable Bek to determine the best process to achieve results.
“Usually I recommend around 3 sessions, it might be more if someone chooses,” she adds.
The key to the success of her work is enabling clients to first see and then accept that they are in control.
“We are all responsible for our own reactions and behaviour, once you equip someone with the right tools to manage their life and take control, it’s very powerful.
