And, on Saturday, the Bridge Street premises will celebrate 20 years of serving the local community with a special open day from 10am to 3.30pm.
“It is a major milestone for THE Centre,” Pat Collins said.
“So, everyone’s invited to join the party.
“Our guest speaker Leonie will chat about the start of THE Centre, while we’ll also have mini consults ($5 donation), stalls, talks all day with donations going to the Muswellbrook PCYC.
“I’ve made some Elder champagne, lots of dips and a special carrot cake is coming from the Denman Bakery.
“It all begins from 10am with a walk around our herbal garden, finishing with yoga at 3pm.
“Make sure you are there for the cutting of the cake (at 1pm) and unveiling of our deceased founding member’s plaque.
“Perhaps your children were taught by Anneta Vaughan.”
Ms Collins admitted it had been an amazing journey.
“I was born in Denman and lived in the Hunter Valley all my life,” she said.
“Our family moved to Martindale in 1982 and, after I completed my course to become a herbalist in the late 1980s, I was asked by TAFE to teach a class on growing plants in Denman in the old Arts and Craft centre.
“This was my first class.
“And, I taught many more in Denman and throughout the Upper Hunter on growing herbs and how to use them.
“My students asked me to practice as a herbalist and I started with much trepidation, in 1994, at the Old Tea House.
“Three years later we had our own centre.
“Many people would know massage therapist Leonie Van de Vliet, too, who was one of our first practitioners.”
