SKELLATAR Park showed no signs of the recent rain, with the track looking a treat for the Shorty Cribb Aberdeen Cup on Sunday.
Race-goers, young and old, converged on the course to soak up the carnival atmosphere, which is expected to continue into next week.
The Muswellbrook Race Club will turn its attention towards the traditional Melbourne Cup meeting on Tuesday, which features the Mayors Cup (1750m) and the Bowman Sprint (900m).
As well, “the race that stops the nation”, the Melbourne Cup, will be shown on the big screen at 3pm.
“We’ve received plenty of bookings from people outside the Upper Hunter to attend Melbourne Cup Day again,” general manager Duane Dowell said.
“Our bigger day for the locals will be MRS Services Muswellbrook Gold Cup on Friday, December 8.
“But, we’ve got some excellent racing in the meantime.”
It’s an 11.30am start for Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup race day.
