THE National Carp Control Plan (NCCP) team, together with the Hunter Local Land Services (LLS), will host an information evening for Muswellbrook residents in a fortnight to discuss carp control options, focusing on the use of a species-specific virus known as Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (the carp virus) as a biocontrol agent.

The session, on Tuesday, December 5, at the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music, will provide locals with an opportunity to contribute feedback on the proposed plan and to ensure risks associated with carp biocontrol are identified and mitigated.
Operating through the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation, the NCCP is tasked with procuring and coordinating the research, planning, and community consultation necessary to enable the Australian Government to make well-informed decisions on carp control in late 2018.
“It’s a chance for Muswellbrook residents to hear about proposed carp biocontrol measures first-hand from the NCCP and Local Land Services as well as contribute feedback to the plan,” a spokesperson said.
“This event, between 6pm and 8pm, is one of more than 40 community briefing sessions that will take place in NSW, Victoria, South Australia, the ACT, Queensland and Western Australia in coming months.”
