The new Summer Reading Program (SRP), Game On, was launched on December 1, with the introduction of virtual reality gaming at both locations.
Another exciting addition in 2017 is Library-opoly.
“There’s no reason for the kids to be bored,” Muswellbrook Library coordinator Dion Hockley said.
“Just sign up to become a member of Upper Hunter Regional Library, register for the SRP at Muswellbrook or Denman from December 1 and fulfil the challenge cards.
“The tasks must be completed to get you in the draw, with the major prize a Gibson electric guitar.
“The youngsters also receive a Game On library bag, Library-opoly sheet, T-shirt, activity book, stickers and more when they join the SRP.
“They can wear the specially-made T-shirts to all the library activities, too.
“We’re looking forward to the 3D virtual reality intertown challenge, which will involve the mayor.
“There’ll also be board and video games at both centres, as well as table tennis.”
Ms Hockley said the popularity of the Summer Reading Program had grown in the past decade.
“We were just shy of 200 children last year,” she admitted.
“So, we’d like to surpass that mark.
“Plus, we want to make the library cool again.
“The SRP still has the reading component; but we’re mixing it with a bit of fun.”
