The Organic Infrastructure grants program supports waste operators to help manage organic waste sustainably, according to Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen.
“Through the Organics Infrastructure grants, the NSW Government is working with councils and businesses to tackle organic and food waste at a community level,” he said.
“These grants support new infrastructure to improve waste facilities, increase processing capacity and fund new equipment, like refrigerated vans and freezers, to enable food relief agencies to collect more donated food.
“The Muswellbrook Shire Council was one of 15 projects to share more than $5 million under this round of funding.
“These initiatives together will increase NSW’s organics waste processing capacity by more than 83,700 tonnes, ensuring less food and garden waste ends up in landfill.”
