The talented 13-year-old will line-up for the Country Sixers Riptides in the Under-14 NSW Challenge at Dubbo this week.
There, he’ll join Central North (CN) team mates – Matt Holmes, Jake House, Jack Hamilton, Landan Price, Callum Henry, Lachlan Page and Max Farmer – in the super zone state tournament from January 22 to 25.
CN finished second to Western at the Kookaburra Cup, at Armidale, with the left-arm medium pace swing bowler making his mark with the ball in hand.
“Jed’s selection, and that of the other boys, is great recognition,” proud mother Amanda Collins said.
“The Riptides identify young talent from four zones – Northern Inland, Mid-North Coast, North Coast and Central North.
“And, Jed had a pretty good carnival [at Armidale].
“Overall, he took seven wickets, including 4-11 off eight overs.
“Jed also played in the under-13 NSW Challenge last season.
“So, he’s lucky enough to be named again – and grateful for the opportunity.”
Fittingly, Collins’ cousin is another gifted youngster – and Denman product, Riley Ayre, who is part of the Sydney Sixers’ Big Bash League squad.
“I guess cricket runs in the family,” his mum admitted.
“But, I know Jed is happy to follow in Riley’s footsteps.
“He also has aspirations to play for his state [or further] – the higher up the better.
“Jed loves the sport.
“However, he’s not getting ahead of himself either.
“We’re just taking it one game at a time.”
