About 12.45am on January 30, police received information that the 30-year-old was driving a silver Toyota Camry from an address in Martindale and travelling to Scone heavily intoxicated.
He was sighted in the vehicle with a firearm before leaving that address.
Due to this report, police began patrolling in an attempt to locate the accused.
At 2.30am, officers saw the motor vehicle travelling westbound upon Wybong Road, Wybong.
The Camry was travelling well below the speed limit with its hazard lights activated.
The driver veered to the grass shoulder and stopped.
He was arrested at the scene.
Firearms were located inside the vehicle and secured appropriately.
The man was then submitted to a roadside breath test, which proved positive.
Police continued the search of the vehicle and located a further two knives.
He was taken to Muswellbrook Police Station and entered into custody.
The man submitted to a breath analysis, which returned a reading of 0.151 grams of alcohol in 210 litres of breath.
In the opinion of police, the accused was well-to-seriously affected by intoxicating liquor.
Due to the high range reading, the man’s licence was immediately suspended and confiscated.
He was charged with high range PCA – 1st offence and custody of a knife in a public place – first offence.
He will appear before Muswellbrook Local Court on February 19.
