For those who find themselves wishing for a Valentine tomorrow, spare a thought for a very busy blended-family of seven kids that prioritises birthdays and anniversaries.
“It took me long enough to find Mr Right,” Colleen Adams said.
“I’m sure for a single couple, Valentine’s Day probably rates on the top of their list but it’s just another day for us really, and when you’re single all that stuff just brings you down.”
The Adams household is busier than most, as nine years ago today, February 13, the triplets were born… they were due in April but they came early.
Colleen’s husband, Dan Adams, distinctly remembers buying her two dozen roses on his way back to the hospital on Valentine’s Day but ironically, yet quite understandably, Colleen doesn’t remember them.
And neither of them can remember celebrating Valentine’s Day since.
“For me it shouldn’t be about just one day, it should be about the whole year,” Dan said.
“I tell him he is my favourite husband all the time” Colleen said.
“He has a heart of gold.”
Adding to the excitement, the following year the couple welcomed baby Austin to the family – on February 17, though he was due on the 14th.
“It’s all good, we’re still together,” Colleen said.
In fact, the couple has been together for 10 years, married since 2013, and even work together managing Kirk’s Bridge Farm along the Bylong Valley Way.
The couple boasts nine children between them with Colleen’s daughter Jen, 20, at Uni in Canberra, and Dan’s son Zach, 15, living in Queensland.
Colleen’s kids Codi, 15, Hunter, 13, and Tash 12, attend Merriwa High School while the triplets, Kayden, Declan and Noah, 9, and Austin, 8 on Saturday, attend the primary school.
Needless to say life is a little hectic with work, kids at work and footy training, sometimes all on the one day.
“Birthdays and anniversaries are different, they’re our days; Valentine’s Day is for everyone,” Colleen said.
