At last year’s Upper Hunter Show in March, she grabbed the chance to take part in the showgirl competition – and finished second.
“I’ve never placed in anything,” Ellie said.
“Not swimming, not running, it was great.”
And, it just so happens that another opportunity has risen, with the winner of that competition deciding not to go ahead with the next step on the showgirl ladder.
Therefore Ellie has agreed to take part in the Zone 5 judging in Singleton this Saturday where 12 girls from all over the Hunter, Newcastle, Morisset and Lake Macquarie areas and as far as the Central West will gather.
“I’m always jumping at opportunities,” she said.
It’s the final step before the Sydney judging of The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl competition.
The ladies will be interviewed by judges Bob Robertson, Ellie O’Hara and Andrew Marshall.
They will be judged on personality, confidence, ambition, general and rural knowledge as well as how they present themselves throughout the day.
They will then take part in a luncheon and formal dinner.
Ellie works as a teacher’s aide at Muswellbrook South Public School as well as a receptionist at the Muswellbrook and District Workers Club
“The competition is huge,” she said.
“And only two girls will go through to the Sydney Show.”
For someone who has never been to the Royal Easter extravaganza befoe, it could be her greatest opportunity yet.
“You don’t already need to be good at something to try it,” Ellie said.
“Just have fun.”
