Figures have swollen to a high not seen in years, prompting the need for a dedicated and fully-qualified swimming mentor.
“The Bengalla Mining Company has so kindly provided much-needed funds to the Muswellbrook Amateur RSL Swimming Club, for the sponsorship of a professional coach for 2017-18,” president Russell Hartin said.
The Muswellbrook Amateur RSL Swimming Club, in conjunction with the Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre, has sought an enthusiastic, motivated and dedicated coach who will contribute to the further development and growth of the organisation’s program.
And, after much anticipation, Monique Sneddon was appointed to the role.
“She will work closely with the junior and senior swimmers to develop and encourage both skills and confidence in the water,” Hartin said.
“She’ll also promote the growth and development of the sport of swimming; promote swimming as a water safety, fitness, and life-long recreational activity; promote the clubs ‘best practice’ methods for the teaching of swimming and the coaching of swimming in a fair and encouraging manner.”
Bengalla CEO Cam Halfpenny said the mining company was happy to support the club.
“The Muswellbrook Amateur RSL Swimming Club does an amazing job with some very dedicated volunteers,” he explained.
“Through the appointment of a qualified coach, our young swimmers will not only continue to improve their skills but gain more confidence to compete at a higher level.
“Bengalla is committed to supporting our local community and through its recently-established Community Development Fund, we are able to support these initiatives and showcase the things that make our region special.”
