Muswellbrook Cats make it two from two in Black Diamond Plate

MUSWELLBROOK travelled to Rutherford to take on Hunter Valley rivals, the Maitland Saints, on Saturday, returning home with a win and a loss.

The Black Diamond Plate side made it two wins from as many starts with a comprehensive 14.14.98 to 1.5.11 victory over the Saints.

The Cats set up the triumph on the back of a seven-goal opening quarter and never looked back.

Jayden Galvin (5) and Sam White (4) combined for nine of Muswellbrook’s 14 goals in a terrific performance up front, while the defence was miserly only allowing the home side a solitary major.

The Cats best players were Jeremy Smith, Mason Solly, Jedd Stojakovic and Galvin.

Muswellbrook 7.4, 10.4, 14.9, 14.14 (98)

Maitland 1.0, 1.4,   1.4, 1.5 (11)

After recording their first win of the year in round one, the Cats women’s side found Maitland a much tougher proposition, losing 14.14.98 to 0.2.2.

A testament to the improvement of the Muswellbrook outfit was the fact they remained competitive throughout the match against one of the league’s best squads.

The Cats best players were Brittany Creighton, Paris Adam, Ashlea Finn and Caterina Zanier.

Next Saturday, Muswellbrook’s Plate side makes the long journey to the Central Coast to take on the Gosford Tigers, while the women host the Newcastle City Novas at Weeraman Field.
