Muswellbrook AFL women hosting Newcastle City Novas at Weeraman Field this weekend

THE Muswellbrook Cats women’s team will be keen to return to the winner’s circle on Saturday when the AFL side lines-up against the Newcastle City Novas.

The Black Diamond squad faces their Hunter rivals at Weeraman Field from noon, with the men locking horns with Gosford at Adcock Park.

The female Cats tackled a Maitland outfit in red-hot form last weekend but fought all the way to the end.

The Saints continued their impressive start to the season with an impressive 96-point win against Muswellbrook.

Maitland’s experience showed and Sarah James led the way up front with five goals, Sarah Burns kicked four and Amanda Smith finished with three in the 14.14-98 to 0.2-2 victory.

The inexperienced Muswellbrook played with plenty of enthusiasm but was unable to convert a glut of possession in their forward half in the final term as the the Saints took their foot off the pedal.

The Cats were best served by Brittany Creighton, Paris Adam, Ashlea Finn, Caterina Zanier, Karli Anshaw and Rebecca Tilbrook.

Muswellbrook thrashed Maitland by 87 points in the Black Diamond Plate.
