Denman’s Merton Court Hostel underwent a major makeover to acknowledge the occasion, much to the delight of the residents.
The aged care facility was transformed into a cruise ship, complete with a captain and lido deck activities.
“Everyone enjoyed it,” Brooke Pritchard said.
“It was a nice way to celebrate Seniors Week.
“The residents had no idea what was taking place.
“Behind the scenes, the staff decorated the hostel, with many of them volunteering their time.
“We made everything ourselves.
“It was a lot of hard work, but worth it in the end.
“The residents were quite impressed by the finished product.
“They boarded the ‘ship’ on Monday morning, only to be greeted by the captain.
“For the rest of the week, they participated in exercises, bingo, cooking demonstrations, karaoke, fishing, trivia, boat and sandcastle building, casino, pampering, shuffle board, hula dancing and much more.”
