To improve turning opportunities and traffic flow for motorists, upgrade work will involve building a left turn and acceleration lane on the Golden Highway for westbound motorists.
Eastbound motorists travelling through to Muswellbrook will soon safely pass by other motorists waiting to turn right, when a right turning lane is provided as part of this upgrade.
The road shoulder will be widened from the intersection to the bridge across the Hunter River, and new lighting will also be installed at the intersection to improve safety for all road users.
Work will start from Monday, May 21, and is scheduled to be completed by end of August, weather permitting.
It’ll be carried out between 7am and 5pm from Monday to Saturday.
For motorist and worker safety, single lane closures, a reduced 40 km/h speed limit and traffic control will be in place during work hours.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.
Roads and Maritime Services thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
