WEAAD was launched on June 15, 2006, by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organisation at the United Nations.
The purpose of WEAAD is to provide an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic processes affecting the welfare and wellbeing of older people.
The theme of this year’s local event – which will take place on Friday, June 15, at integratedliving, Boronia Building, 3 Wilkinson Avenue, from 10am – is Celebrating Ageing: Valuing your wisdom, knowledge and experience.
This is a great opportunity for the community to come together to not only acknowledge the wonderful contribution of our older Australians but to also raise awareness of elder abuse and importantly what can be done to prevent it.
This exciting and informative event will involve the gathering of local older citizens and community groups to enjoy morning tea while having the opportunity to participate in a range of entertainment, including ukulele group singalong, chair yoga, croquet demonstration, community stalls and more.
