But, time is running out.
Hunter Life Education will host the inaugural BHP Mt Arthur Coal Hunter Soap Box Derby down Carl Street, Muswellbrook, on Saturday, June 23.
And, executive officer Sarah Gray is expecting the “competition will be fierce but friendly”.
“The aim of the event is to create or foster connections with friends, family, groups and colleagues,” she said.
“Cart building is easy with simple specifications.
“So, it’s a fantastic opportunity to learn a new talent, brush up on skills you haven’t used in a while, and show everyone what you’re able to build.”
There are several race categories, starting with juniors (drivers aged 7-15), seniors (drivers aged 16+), then a grudge match between mine sites in the Hunter Valley, as well as corporates and businesses facing off in pairs down the hill.
“The Hunter Soap Box Derby is a fundraising event organised by and for the benefit of Hunter Life Education, working to ensure young people of the Hunter have access to free of subsidised life education lessons,” Ms Gray said.
“These empower young people to lead safer and healthier lives though education.
“Our thanks must go to sponsors and partners BHP Mt Arthur Coal, ARTC, Muswellbrook Shire Council, PCYC Muswellbrook, Coates Hire Muswellbrook, Lavis Home Timber & Hardware Muswellbrook, and Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce and Industry.”
Race details and specifications can be found online at www.hunterlifeeducation.org.au and pre-registrations are being taken now.
Carts can also be registered on the day of the event.
