In the past financial year, the organisation has purchased medical equipment totalling $37,000, thanks also to the generosity of the town’s residents and businesses.
The group’s largest donation, $19,278, was presented to the theatre department for items they feel will be of great assistance to the doctors and staff.
A further $16,000 went to a floor for comfortable bedside chairs in all wards.
“We sincerely hope this makes everyone’s visit to our hospital a little more comfy,” MHA president Sue Durham said.
“A cheque was also donated to maternity for a mobile transport chair for the amount of $1645.
“We’d like to express our gratitude to the citizens of Muswellbrook, and surrounding districts, who have made this all possible.
“Everyone’s been very kind – and we’re, indeed, particularly grateful.”
Mrs Durham also praised the MHA’s members.
“Thank you to the 18 ladies for giving up their time to help a much worthy cause,” she said.
“However, we’re always on the look-out for newcomers.
“We are hoping to have our Wig Library up and running again very soon.
“One of our valued members, who was in charge of it, has relocated unfortunately.
“It is at present in storage awaiting a room to become available at the Muswellbrook District Hospital.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience to those who have had to travel to Newcastle.
“This library means a lot to our members, and to the community, and as it is the only one between Tamworth and Newcastle, it is very well-patronised and needed.”
Mrs Durham said the women of the MHA would not be slowing down any time soon.
“We’re trying to raise $30,000 for our next project, which is medical equipment in the operating theatre,” she added.
“We’ll be out and about fundraising again.
“And, any donations would be greatly appreciated.”
