FOLLOWING extensive community consultation and investigation of options, Muswellbrook Shire Council resolved to adopt Option 3 of the Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre Concept Masterplan on Tuesday night – the shared indoor and refurbished outdoor 50m pool design.

Council considered submissions from local residents on a number of possibilities for the redevelopment of the Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre that have been on public exhibition throughout the year.
A community information session was also convened in June to provide a detailed overview of the project to interested parties and to hear directly from user groups and other members of the public.
Option 3 received strong support from the community and meets a desire, particularly by competition swimmers, to retain the existing 50m outdoor pool while providing the desirable features of an indoor facility for all ages, growing the complex to a quality regional facility.
Features include refurbishment of the existing 50m outdoor pool, construction of a wet deck, indoor pool shared with water play and learn to swim/warm water areas, spa and sauna, 24-hour gym access, new entrance and foyer, commercial kitchen and kiosk, dry play party room and viewing deck.
Council has also been successful in grant funding applications to support the redevelopment with $1 million granted towards the water play area from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities fund and $700,000 towards the learn to swim/warm water pool from the Ridgelands Community Fund.
“We consulted with community members and user groups and listened to what they had to say about the future of the Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre,” council’s general manager Fiona Plesman said.
“The upgrade of the aquatic centre proposed in the adopted masterplan will help meet the recreational needs of local families and support the community’s long-term vision to develop Muswellbrook as a regional centre.”
