THE Muswellbrook Cats women’s team put in one of its best performances of the AFL season at Weeraman Field on Saturday, despite going down by 62 points to the Singleton Roosterettes 10.10.70 to 1.2.8.
After kicking five first quarter goals, everyone expected the finals-bound Singleton outfit to run away with the game.
However, it was not to be as the Cats girls dug deep and were able to restrict the Roosterettes to just five majors for the remainder of the match, while managing to kick a goal themselves through Emma Wilkins.
Eila Mills, Natalie Heard and Ashlea Finn were the best for Muswellbrook.
In just their second season, the Cats managed to win three matches after not recording a victory in 2017.
The improvement shown by the girls throughout the year augers well for the future and with the influx of new players, Muswellbrook could challenge for finals in 2018.
Singleton 5.2, 6.3, 9.9, 10.10 (70)
Muswellbrook 0.0, 1.1, 1.1, 1.2 (8)
Goals: Emma Wilkins 1
Best: Eila Mills, Natalie Heard, Ashlea Finn, Charlee-mae Schmierer, Karli Anshaw, Tiarne Forder
